What happened to zany musician Kay Kyser?
—Michael Neal, Trenton, N.J.
The big bandleader, a native of Rocky Mount, N.C., had 11 No. 1 hits and enjoyed his heyday on the 1939-1949 NBC radio program “Kay Kyser’s Kollege of Musical Knowledge.” Known on the musical quiz show as “The Ol’ Perfessor,” he was famous for his catchphrases “C’mon, chillun! Les dance!” and “That’s right—you’re wrong.” Two of his seven movies, “Playmates” and “Swing Fever,” are now on DVD. Kyser died at 80 of a heart attack in 1985.
