What happened to Kim Delaney of “Army Wives”? She has been a staple on that show for six years and was absent the last half of this season, including the season finale.

Delaney, 51, has made the decision to leave “Army Wives,” so even though the series has been renewed for its seventh season, she will not be returning. The character of Claudia Joy Holden will be killed off in the season premiere and Michael Holden (Brian McNamara) will be a widower.

“The first two episodes will be very emotional and will confirm that Claudia Joy is no longer among the living,” executive producer Jeff Melvoin said in a recent interview. “It’s been very wrenching for us to write, and, I think, it will be very wrenching for the audience to go through.”

Returning cast members will include Catherine Bell (Denise), Wendy Davis (Joan), Alyssa Diaz (Gloria), J.J. Soria (Hector), Terry Serpico (Frank), and Kelli Williams (Jackie). But keep in mind several of these characters were on the plane that appeared as if it was about to crash in the sixth-season finale, so there could be additional character deaths.

Sally Pressman, who plays Roxy, is also rumored to return for a couple of guest-star appearances, similar to those made by Brigid Brannagh (Pamela) in season six, as is Sterling K. Brown (Roland).
