Georgian Lindy Newton's Dreams Become a Reality
Only a few months after moving from Waycross, Ga. (pop. 15,333), to Los Angeles, newcomer Lindy Newton, 23, is seeing her childhood dream of becoming a successful actress come true. She stars in Thicker Than Water on the Hallmark Channel at 9 p.m. ET March 12. "It's about family," she says, "but not necessarily about blood family. It's more about adopted family—what you think family is and how it is important in your life." The movie also stars Lindsay Wagner and Melissa Gilbert. "I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie, so I was very intimidated the first day I went in because the first scene they had me shoot was with Melissa," she says. "But she was super down-to-earth. It was one of those out-of-body experiences where I had to pinch myself." Newton performed in her first school play at age 10 and began auditioning for films at age 14. The 2004 College of Charleston (S.C.) graduate landed roles in the movies Radio and The Notebook and moved to Los Angeles in July. She's supporting herself as a restaurant hostess between acting jobs. "I'm just auditioning in the hopes of being busy," she says. "(Television) pilot season is coming up."
