Edelstein’s father was a pediatrician, so she has been around medicine all of her life. “I have always loved medicine,” says the actress, 45, who adds that growing up with a doctor dad helped her realize the importance of facts and information, instead of falling prey to uninformed anxieties. “I think medically you have to be your own advocate. You have to be able to back up everything you are feeling with some information and protect yourself through the world of hospitals and doctors’ offices. So the more information, the better.”
