Mad Max Trilogy
Blu-ray $49 / Warner Home Video

“Mad Max,” “Mad Max Road Warrior” and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” were the trio of 1979-1985 sci-fi flicks that paved the road to superstardom for Mel Gibson. All were set in the near future in a bleak, barbaric world ruled by chaos—and are remembered in part for their gritty, gung-ho highway stunts and rough-and-tumble car crashes, all done in an era before special effects could be computer-enhanced. Now assembled together in one collection, with “Thunderdome” making its Blu-ray debut, they offer a progressive six-year snapshot of young Gibson in his native Australia, developing his rising movie-star mojo while perfecting a character that would become a pop-cultural icon.
