Ever wonder how professional home cleaners do their job? They have a tried-and-true system, says Kristi Mailloux, president of Molly Maids Inc. in Ann Arbor, Mich. And you can use the same technique to clean your home.

First, start in the room that is farthest from the front door. This typically is a bedroom. Begin the process at the right of the doorframe and move from top to bottom, left to right, cleaning everything in your path. Finish the room by vacuuming or mopping the floor, making your way out the door. If you have a two-story home, continue this method right down the stairs, saving the kitchen for last.

In the bathroom, apply cleaning solution to the tub and shower area before you continue with the right-of-the-doorframe routine, allowing the cleaner to do its job. Wipe down the tub and shower last.

In the kitchen, always start to the right of the stove, which generally is the messiest area in the room. Again, move top to bottom, left to right. Remove stove grates and soak them while you clean the rest of the kitchen.
