What can you tell me about the British gal who won America’s Next Top Model?
—Louise Simpson, Bismarck, N.D.

Sophie Sumner was born in Oxford, England, where she attended the Headington School. She was accepted to Exeter but decided to postpone attending university to focus on modeling. She auditioned for and was accepted by Britain’s Next Top Model, in which she finished second in the show’s fifth cycle.

Tyra Banks selected Sumner as one of the seven Britain’s Next Top Model alumni to compete in the America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion season that wrapped up at the end of May.

It was Sumner’s upbeat personality and strong runway walk that won her the title over her American competitor Laura LaFrate. The 22-year-old, whose hair was dyed pink in the makeover episode, is hoping that winning the TV series will help her obtain a U.S. work visa, so she can move to the States and pursue her modeling career.

She is also hoping that one of her prizes—getting to be a celebrity guest correspondent for Extra—will lead to more TV job offers.

“I just want to be out there and start working because I can’t do an amazing thing like win America’s Next Top Model and then stay in England,” she says. “I need to be out there. I love the country and I love all the people. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me in the United States of America.”
