Could you give us an update on child star Beverly Washburn of Old Yeller fame?
—John Brigman, Vestavia Hills, Ala.
The Los Angeles, Calif., native, 69, recently released her autobiography, “Reel Tears: The Beverly Washburn Story, Take Two.” “Cecil B. DeMille directed me in “The Greatest Show on Earth,” George Stevens directed me in “Shane,” and Frank Capra directed me in “Here Comes the Groom” with Bing Crosby, but when you’re 8 or 9 years old that doesn’t mean anything,” she says. Washburn, who co-starred on “The New Loretta Young Show” in the 1960s, was a guest on a variety of TV shows from the 1950s through the 1970s, continues to act, and appeared in the 2007 film “Hard Four.”
