Q: What can you tell me about Patrick Wilson of A Gifted Man on TV? He resembles an offspring of Paul Newman. Any relationship?

—Diane Hanks, Spokane, Wash.

He's no relation to the late, great Newman, but Wilson is related by marriage (he's a brother-in-law) to another actor, Scott Foley ("Henry Burton" on Grey's Anatomy). Wilson's father, John, is a TV anchorman in Tampa, Fla.; his mother, Mary, is a professional singer and voice teacher.

A Gifted Man marks Wilson's debut as the star of a TV series. He earned a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University before launching his acting career on Broadway and in films. His movie credits include Insidious, The Ledge, Little Children, The A-Team, The Phantom of the Opera and The Alamo.

Wilson, 38, received Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations for his role in the TV miniseries Angels in America, and has received two consecutive Tony Award nominations for best actor in a musical for his work in Oklahoma and The Full Monty. Additional Broadway credits include Barefoot in the Park, All My Sons and Gershwin's Fascinating Rhythm. The native of Norfolk, Va., lives in New Jersey with his wife, actress Dagmara Dominczyk, and their two sons.
