Four-foot-tall Luigi Francis “Shorty” Rossi, 42, says “I liked the breed so much because of the loyalty and dedication they have. They’re short and stocky and didn’t want to listen to nobody. I was short and stocky—well, I’m still short and stocky—so I understood the breed, and the breed understood me.” In 2001, he formed Shorty’s Pit Bull Rescue, which rescues, rehabilitates and places neglected and abused pit bulls in loving, nurturing homes. He has six pit bulls of his own as pets.
