It's always nice finding the perfect item at a yard sale at the perfect price. These five yard sales bring in deal finders from multiple states. Tips for enjoying these sales include planning your stops, driving a large vehicle, bringing cash, wearing comfortable shoes and making hotel reservations, if necessary.

The 127 Corridor Sale. There are many reasons to visit the Cumberland Plateau. A popular one is to check out the headquarters of the World's Longest Yard Sale in Jamestown, Tenn. Of course, you don't have to actually go to Tennessee to enjoy great deals because this yard sale goes from Hudson, Mich., to Gadsden, Ala. That's 675 miles of great deals along Highway 127 the first weekend in August. Anyone can participate. Most vendors begin selling each morning around 8 a.m. There is no cost for admission.

The Lincoln Highway Buy-way. If you can't make the 127 Corridor Sale, you may want to check out the Lincoln Highway Buy-way Yard Sale. Stretching more than 250 miles from West Virginia to eastern Illinois, it is held annually the first full weekend in August. As with the other long-distance sales on this list, the yard sales are accompanied by antique sales, restaurants and community events. Each state involved in the sale has a contact person for those who wish to participate.

Historic National Road Sale. For school-aged kids, the end of May and beginning of June is a glorious time when the fun of summer stares them in the face. For yard sale gurus and bargain hunters, the end of May and beginning of June means the Historic National Road Sale, which runs from Baltimore to St. Louis on Historic U.S. Route 40. That's 824 miles of bargains, antiques, produce, furniture and anything else you can imagine.

Coast-to-Coast, U.S. Route 50 Yard Sale. The ultimate goal of the Coast-to-Coast U.S. Route 50 Yard Sale is to have each community along Route 50 from Washington, D.C., to Sacramento participate. Currently, counties in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah and Nevada participate in the coast-to-coast sale the third weekend in May. As long as it's legal, you can sell it. For information about which specific communities are participating in this year's event, check out the event website or local advertisements.

U.S.11 Antique Alley & Yard Sale. Drive the back roads of Appalachia from Meridian, Miss., to Bristol, Va., the first weekend after Mother's Day and find antique sales, yard sales, flea markets, festivals and community events. Prospective vendors are encouraged to contact local officials for available space. The 502-mile sale along Route 11 brings tens of thousands of bargain hunters to various locales annually.

Happy hunting!
