Boothe, 63, stars with Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Tom Berenger and Mare Winningham in the three-part Hatfields & McCoys, beginning May 28 on the History channel. “I love period pieces, the clothes, riding horses. This was a time when you had to take care of yourself. It’s the way I was raised,” says the native of Snyder, Texas. He describes his character, Wall Hatfield, as the level-headed older brother of his clan. “I’m the one Costner’s character kind of listens to for rationale. The irony of it, to me, is that what kicked off [the feud] was a pig.”
