Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for Best Actress in 1980 for her portrayal of country legend Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner's Daughter. Spacek, 51, was born in Quitman, Texas, and originally wanted to be a singer. She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatrical Institute and in 1972 made her feature film debut in Prime Cut. Her first Best Actress Oscar nomination came for her leading role in the 1976 movie Carrie. Spacek recently appeared in the Lifetime original movie Midwives and is to star in the Disney film Tuck Everlasting, due out next year. Spacek is married to director Jack Fisk and has two daughters, Schuyler, an actress, and Madison, a middle-school student. They live on a horse farm in Virginia.
