Steve Martin: The Television Stuff

DVD ($34.93)

For anyone who wasn’t around in the 1970s, it’s hard to imagine just how much of the era’s comedy universe revolved around Steve Martin. Before he became a movie icon, Martin was a television superstar, and this collection rounds up a wide selection of his four “wild and crazy” NBC-TV sketch-comedy specials; his Oscar-nominated short film “The Absent-Minded Waiter”; a 1976 HBO special; and a rare full live performance from the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles that marks the only complete existing footage of Martin’s “uncensored” stage act of the 1970s. An additional disc of comedic bits and pieces from the ’60s into the 2000s, and a 24-booklet round out the set.
