How are the contestants on The Price Is Right chosen?

First, you must obtain tickets to the game show, either by logging on to www.cbs.com or sending a self-addressed stamped envelope, specifying date and quantity of tickets, to: The Price Is Right tickets, 7800 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036. Contestants are chosen right out of the line of people holding tickets to watch the taping of the show. "While they're in line, the contestant coordinator goes out and interviews every one of them and makes his choices," says Bob Barker, who is in his 34th year as host. "But, they are not told they are going to be on the show. They don't know until our announcer says, ‘Mary Jones, come on down!' The true philosophy of the selection is based on the fact that our country has become a melting pot. They come in all sizes, all colors, all ages, all religions, people of all backgrounds cheering each other on. And they try to select people with whom I can have fun."
