When did Tom Selleck get his start on television and in the movies?

The Detroit-born actor, 65, made his television debut as one of the three bachelor contestants on an episode of The Dating Game in 1967. (He didn’t get chosen.) He paid his acting dues on various TV shows, including the daytime soap The Young and the Restless, before finally striking gold in 1980 with Magnum, P.I. His first movie appearance was a small role in Myra Breckinridge (1970), later eclipsed by numerous Hollywood hits, including Quigley Down Under and Three Men and a Baby, plus a series of TV movies in which he starred as police detective Jesse Stone.
