I saw Margaret O’Brien in the film The Canterville Ghost. What is she doing now?
—Janice Schnorr, Carlsbad, N.M.
O’Brien, now 73, was one of MGM’s leading child stars in the 1940s and earned a special Academy Award at age 8 for her role as Tootie in Meet Me in St. Louis. “I became known for being able to cry on cue,” she says. “I could let the tears roll with the best of them.” Also known for parts in Little Women, Our Vines Have Tender Grapes and The Secret Garden, O’Brien left the big screen in the 1950s. She’s been married and divorced twice and has one daughter. She enjoys attending film nostalgia conventions and last year appeared in a made-for-DVD horror film, Dead in Love.
