In honor of Valentine’s Day, American Profile invited third-graders in several elementary schools around the country to write notes explaining what they love most about somebody special to them. Our thanks to the students and teachers of Crestview Elementary, Waco, Texas; Maple Avenue Elementary, Claremont, N.H.; Milton Elementary, Milton, Penn.; Moose Lake Elementary, Moose Lake, Minn.; Strawberry Park Elementary, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Waycona Elementary, Waycross, Ga.; and Wittenburg Elementary, Taylorsville, N.C.
The notes were extremely well written, leaving us little to do but correct some spellings. Here are some of our favorites. Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you.

Dear Mom,
I love you more every day and especially when you signed me up for cheerleading. When you did I was so happy. Sometimes you make me mad, but then you make me feel better.
Love,
Your daughter Alicia

Dear Grammy,
I love you because you love me. Also, because you let me stay at your house after school till my dad gets home. If I spill drink on the floor, you do not yell at me. Except the one night when I brought frogs home. Then you were not very happy. But I still love you anyway.
Love,
Nicole

Dear Mama,
My love for you is massive. You are gifted, thankful, and jolly. I will love you, because you are my thankful Mama. You are as sweet as honey, pretty as a blossom in the spring. You pay money for food, clothes, toys, hairbows, candy, and field trips. It is like you to live in a wonderland filled with joy. You take me trick-or-treating. You taught me to tie my shoes. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Love,
Kaylee

Dear Grandma,
I am writing a tribute to you to let you know how special you are. The day after I was born, you brought me Mrs. Beaslie. It use to be my mom’s favorite doll until one day Uncle Mike and Uncle Bryon started to play tug-o-war with it. Both arms were ripped off. The day before I was born, you went and got Mrs. Beaslie repaired for me. I also think you are trustworthy … because when you say you will do something, you will do it.
Sincerely,
Kylee
