Born in Greenville, Miss., Brown earned a degree in meteorology at Jackson State University, where she was a gifted sprinter and at one point ranked fifth in the world in the 50-meter dash. The married mother of three enjoys time with family, playing tennis and reading. As for her career choice, she says, "I've always been fascinated with cloud development and storms. When I was in high school, I thought meteorology was a wide open field for women and minorities.
