John Russell, who starred as Marshal Dan Troop in the 1958-1962 Western series, died of emphysema in 1991 at age 70. The native of Los Angeles, California, who served as a U.S. Marine during World War II, also starred in the TV series “Soldiers of Fortune” and “Jason of Star Command.” His movie credits include “Pale Rider,” “Yellowstone Kelly,” “Rio Bravo” and “The Outlaw Josey Wales.” Peggie Castle, who played saloon owner Lily Merrill, died in 1973 at age 45 of cirrhosis of the liver. A native of Appalachia, Virginia, she made 20 movies from 1947 to 1958, including “Invasion U.S.A.” and “Miracle in the Rain,” and appeared on numerous TV series throughout the ’50s.
