Don’t have a lot of time for weekends at the spa, but long for a relaxing, indulgent experience? Not to worry. Find out more about what a day spa is and what it has to offer busy people with a need for healthy, high-quality beauty treatments.

Day spas are adaptable and handy. Day spas are different from destination resort spas in that they do not require substantial time and monetary commitments. Day spas are local and plentiful. Your favorite resident hair and nail salon is likely to have day spa services that you can order off a menu of service options. Pick one at a time or select several “courses” to customize that indulgent spa experience and be revitalized one hour at a time.

Day spas are approachable luxury for the mind, body and spirit. According to the International Spa Association, spas are dedicated to enhancing overall well-being through a variety of professional and worthwhile services. Like the more expensive overnight resort-style spas, day spas offer similar experiences and services minus the sleepover. Expect to find:

  • Professional and licensed massage therapists
  • Professional and licensed estheticians
  • A range of massage, body and facial treatments
  • Robes, slippers, linens and amenities for before and after spa treatments
  • Changing areas
  • Comfortable, relaxing, private rooms for treatments
  • Spa products to buy for home use
  • Refreshments

Additional services are sometimes offered. Medical day spas take the spa treatment experience to the next level. Most offer all the typical treatments and extras such as:

  • Laser treatments
  • Photo rejuvenation
  • Botox injections
  • On-site physicians

Day spas are more affordable. Most luxurious overnight spas can cost thousands of dollars to experience. Day spas are excellent counterpoints to this expense. Local spas in your neighborhood often provide excellent services at a substantial savings from big city or resort spas. The typical hourlong Swedish massage should run $75 to $120. Body wraps of all types can be had for about $100 to $140. Little treats such as spa pedicures cost about $65 to $90. Tips usually are not included and can add 15 percent to 20 percent to the total bill. Note that spa services and costs will vary from location to location. Call ahead of booking to be best prepared.
