What Went Wrong
By the Editors of Popular Mechanics
Hardcover, 240 pages ($24.95)

Note the lack of a question mark in the title. That’s because this book isn’t asking, it’s telling—the scientific, forensic explanations for specific, well-known catastrophes that have made both headlines and history. After reading these break-it-down accounts of the causes of harrowing hurricanes, terrible tornadoes, violent volcanoes, deadly earthquakes, devastating tsunamis, ravaging wildfires, sky-scorching explosions, bridge collapses, airplanes crashes and dozens of other calamities, you may not feel any safer—but then again, you might, thanks to the handy and helpful disaster-survival tips sprinkled throughout.
