What is Loretta Lynn doing these days?
—Tom Inqwerson, Casper, Wyoming
“The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” 81, who was born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, continues to tour, write songs and make records. The Grand Ole Opry member of more than half a century has recorded more than 50 albums and was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year. “I ain’t a star; a star is something up in the night sky,” she says. “People say to me, ‘You’re a legend.’ I’m not a legend. I’m just a woman.” Her Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills is a popular Tennessee tourist attraction.
