What's the skinny on Whitney Cummings of the new show Whitney? She seems to have popped up from nowhere.

Not so. Cummings, 29, is considered to be this fall TV's "It Girl," with her starring role on Whitney, which she created from bits from her standup routine, and the ABC series 2 Broke Girls, which she developed with Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City).
The former model, who was raised in Washington, D.C., and attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Md., graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 with a degree in communications and film. She made her name as a cast member on MTV's Punk'd and as a standup comedian.
Despite having two TV series on the air, this funny gal says she has no intention of giving up standup. "Schedule-wise, I'm always figuring out how I can get on stage again, how I can make that happen, because I am here [doing Whitney] because of standup," says Cummings. "I can't just decide I'm done with that. That's where I'm right on stage and I get my ideas, and I never want to forget that. That's also sort of what I live for."
