What can you tell me about Moon Bloodgood from 'Falling Skies?' How did she get her name?
—Chin Pak, Eugene, Ore.
The Anaheim, Calif.-born actress, 36, is Dutch and Irish on her father’s side and South Korean on her mother’s side. Her parents met when her father was stationed in Korea. Moon is actually her middle name. Her full birth name is Korinna Moon Bloodgood.
“My mom is South Korean and grew up during the Korean War,” she says. “It so sounds like I am making this up, but she tells me this story that she would guide herself home by the moon. There was no electricity. She lived in a village. So as she would walk home, she would look up at the moon and make prayers. It was wartime. When I was born, my face was round, so it is actually based on the moon.”
Bloodgood began her professional career as a dancer, first landing a spot as an L.A. Lakers Girl. Following that, she toured as a dancer for Prince, Brandi and the rock band Offspring. She also did a turn as a model, shooting campaigns for Revlon, L’Oreal, Avon, Adidas and Nike.
Her acting career began with a role in the feature film Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!, which was followed by A Lot Like Love, Eight Below and the soon-to-be released indie film, The Surrogate. Her previous TV series include the short-lived 'Day Break' and 'Journeyman.'
Of her role as Dr. Anne Glass on 'Falling Skies,' she says, “What I always hope for is that people say it’s stimulating, it looks great, it feels good, and it is unique. I don’t think we are trying to reinvent the wheel. But I hope they feel it is honest. That it is a good show and deserves to be on the air.”
