My friends and I enjoy “Doc Martin” on PBS. We were wondering if something happened to actress Stephanie C ole, who played Auntie Joan on the program?

Stephanie Cole, 72, a star of the English stage as well as film, radio and TV, left the show in 2009. “With TV, after four seri es I always say, ‘Thank you, that’s the end of it!’ That’s why I left Doc Martin— there are other mountains to climb, other rivers to swim.” In 2011, Cole joined the cast of “Coronation Street,” t he world’s longest- running TV soap opera in production, as Sylvia Goodwin. Among her other TV series are “Keeping Mum,” “Wa iting for God” and “Open All Hours.” She recently appeared on PBS in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1938 thri ller “The Lady Vanishes.”
