My husband and I watch the television show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation every week. What can you tell us about the star, William Petersen?
—Barbara A., Texas

Petersen was born in Evanston, Ill., in 1953 and attended Idaho State University on a football scholarship, but once he took a few drama classes, his interest in football took second place. After graduation, he studied with a noted Shakespearean scholar in Spain. Upon his return, he worked in the theater. In 1979, he formed the Remains Theater Ensemble with a group of fellow actors and made a huge impact with his first film role, as a Secret Service agent in To Live and Die in L.A. His other credits include Manhunter, Cousins, and The Contender. Petersen has appeared in television movies and miniseries, but CSI is his first television series.
