15 Craziest Celebrity Baby Names

As the world anxiously awaits the name William and Kate will give the newest member of Britain’s royal family, one thing’s for sure, the name they give their 8 lb., 6 oz. baby boy born July 22, will certainly be more traditional than these crazy celebrity baby names.

North West (b. June 15, 2013)

Daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Rap music megastar Kanye West is well known as a masterful wordsmith and cutting edge provocateur, so the public was expecting something a little unusual when his daughter with girlfriend Kim Kardashian—of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” fame—arrived in the world. But when “Kimye” announced that their new daughter’s name would be nothing more than a directional pun, even the craziest name theorists were left scratching their heads.

Blue Ivy Carter (b. Jan. 7, 2012)

Daughter of Jay Z and Beyoncé Knowles

There may be no bigger power couple in the music industry than Shawn Carter (aka hip-hop artist Jay Z) and Beyoncé Knowles, so of course the world waited with held breath as the heiress to their cultural empire was born. Few expected a name like Blue Ivy Carter, and even fewer know what the name actually means.

Apple Blythe Alison Martin (b. 2004)

Daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

Academy Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin have been married for ten years now and have two children. Together they’re a great example of the successful celebrity power couple. But the name of Paltrow and Martin’s firstborn, which looks strikingly similar to “apple martini,” left some questioning their parenting skills. Paltrow explained to Oprah Winfrey that she chose the name because it sounded “so lovely and… clean!” We’ll give her the benefit of the doubt.

Kal-El Coppola Cage (b. 2005)

Son of Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim

Nicolas Cage’s love of comic book lore is hardly a secret, but when the Academy Award winner named his son Kal-El, there were quite a few who wondered whether he was delusional. Kal-El is the birth name of none other than Superman. Need we say anymore?

Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette (b. 2005)

Daughter of Penn Jillette and Emily Zolten

Not much can be said about a name like Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette, because there doesn’t appear to be any rational explanation for it. Perhaps it’s one big misdirection put on by the young girl’s father, master illusionist Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller fame. Until we can know for sure, we’re left wondering where the girl’s parents, Jillette and wife Emily Zolten, came up with such a name.

Pilot Inspektor Riesgraf-Lee (b. 2003)

Son of Jason Lee and Beth Riesgraf

Actor Jason Lee has many noteworthy film and TV credits to his name, among them “The Incredibles,” “Almost Famous” and “My Name Is Earl,” but he may have garnered the most headlines when he announced the name of his first child, Pilot Inspektor Riesgraf-Lee, with then-partner Beth Riesgraf. Lee explained the name was inspired by the song “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot” by the indie rock band Grandaddy.

Speck Wildhorse Mellencamp (b. 1995)

Son of John Cougar Mellencamp and Elaine Irwin

You would think John Cougar Mellencamp might have chosen a name like “Jack” or “Diane” for his children, but history has proved him a more adventurous parent. The name Speck Wildhorse sticks out perhaps the most, but names like Hud and Justice deserve honorable mention among Mellencamp’s children.

Audio Science Clayton (b. 2003)

Son of Shannyn Sossaman and Dallas Clayton

Hawaiian-born actress Shannyn Sossaman’s most famous on-screen accomplishment to date came in 2001’s “A Knight’s Tale,” when she played the late Heath Ledger’s love interest. Two years later, Sossaman’s film success was almost overshadowed by the birth of her son with then-boyfriend Dallas Clayton, purely because of the name she chose for her son. To say Audio Science is a curious choice of name for her firstborn is an understatement—we’re still scratching our heads on this one.

Fifi Trixibelle (b. 1983), Peaches Honeyblossom (b. 1989) and Little Pixie (b. 1990)

Children of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates

Billionaire musician and humanitarian Bob Geldof seems to have made all the right decisions through his long career, but many remain curious about the names of his children, which include daughters Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom, Little Pixie, and adopted daughter Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. Geldof has supposedly reasonable explanations for all the names, though, so most speculation has been put to rest.

Alcamy (b. 1987)

Daughter of Lance and Mary Jane Henriksen

Legendary actor Lance Henriksen has had success in films like “The Terminator” and the “Alien” series, and at age 73, his career is still going strong. But in 1987, many questioned his judgment when he named his first child Alcamy. It looks like a curious misspelling of the world “alchemy,” but we really can’t be sure.

Free (b. 1972)

Son of Barbara Hershey and David Carradine

Actors Barbara Hershey and David Carradine met on the set of the film “Heaven With a Gun,” after which they began a domestic partnership which led to the birth of their son, whom they named Free. Apparently Free himself recognized this parenting mishap, as he changed his name to Tom at age 9.

Rocket Valentin (b. 1995), Racer Mazimilliano (b. 1997), Rebel Antonio (b. 1999), Rogue and Rhiannon

Children of Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan

Robert Rodriguez has made huge waves in the film industry as an accomplished DIY-style director, with films like “Once Upon a Time in Mexico,” “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Spy Kids” all in his repertoire. His signature style, action-packed and infused with humor, must have carried over into his personal life. The names of his children, such as Rocket Valentin and Racer Mazimilliano, all sound like they could be titles of his movies.

Tu Simone Ayer Morrow (b. 2001)

Daughter of Rob Morrow and Debbon Ayer

Actor Rob Morrow is perhaps best known for his award-winning lead role on the classic TV series “Northern Exposure.” Since then, however, the veteran actor has made headlines in his personal life. Take, for instance, the name of his daughter, which, when said properly, sounds like the word “tomorrow.” And to think, Simone Ayer Morrow would have been such a lovely name.

Dweezil (b. 1969), Ahmet Emuukha Rodan (b. 1974), Moon Unit (b. 1967), Diva Muffin (b. 1979)

Children of Frank Zappa and Gail Zappa

Frank Zappa is no stranger to the unusual. The oddball musical mastermind has made a career out of being off-the-wall and iconoclastic. Apparently he took this vision to heart even in his personal life, as the names of his children—Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, Moon Unit, and Diva Muffin—defy conventional explanation.

Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa (b. 2008)

Son of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet

Lisa Bonet is best known for her role as Denise Huxtable on the classic TV series “The Cosby Show.” Since then her career has slowed down, and she has legally changed her name to Likolai Moon. She has had two children with actor Jason Momoa, her second husband. Both children have traditional Hawaiian names, but her youngest, son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa, takes the cake for biggest mouthful of celebrity baby names. The name is some sort of combination of words meaning, “warrior,” “strength,” “spirit,” “rain,” and “dark.”
